[Thinlinc-technical] KDE 4.4.5: missing volume control

Hello folks,

recently my long running private Ubuntu 10.04 server got an security
update of libc-bin and libc6 packages which killed my 4 years old Sunray
4.2 installation. Fortunately I was prepared to switch to ThinLinc as I
had installed version 4.1 in 2013 already without testing it.
Due to Oracles announcement of stopping Sunray support in future I
haven't invested any effort to repair the Sunray server installation.

The test with tl-client on my LinuxMint 17 (-> Ubuntu 14.04) running
notebook went very well with much higher video performance than the
Sunray 2FS and so I stay now with ThinLinc (upgrading to version 4.2
fine as well).
As my wife and I are working with ThinLinc only in a private environment
we'll never use more than 3 to 4 clients, currently only 2.
And we only run Linux desktops, no Windows!

My wife is configured to Gnome 2 desktop environment (2.30) while I'm
used to work on KDE since more than 10 years (currently 4.4.5 on the old
Lucid).
But while my wifes Gnome work fine and the volume control of Gnome is
working well with the HW keys within the Sun type 7 keyboard the KDE
desktop offers me no volume control. Kmix of other mixer apps do not
start and HW keys are not recognized!

Does anybody has a hint how to control audio volume within KDE 4 ?

Best Regards,
Juergen
